Buick, one of the oldest American brands, was created in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, who released his first car (the Model B) the next year. He quickly launched other innovations, which led to the sale of Buick to General Motors in 1908 as General Motors was acquiring other car companies in America. From the beginning, though, Buick was a favorite in Chicago and other cities around the country.
Even after being purchased by General Motors, Buick craftsmanship and innovation continued. They were the first car company to introduce mass produced four wheel braking systems on some of their vehicles. This soon was copied by other car companies (which led to a little more safety on the streets of Chicago.) In the 40s, Buick released the Roadmaster, which could make it back and forth across the United States without any problems.
The 50s and 60s were big for Buick as their innovations continued. During the gas crisis of the 70s and throughout the 80s, Buick recognized what was happening to the auto market in the US, and decided to come out with smaller, more practical cars. They were still nice (something a lot of people in Chicago wished they had), but they weren't as big and bulky as earlier models. The big cars were still there, but they were complimented with a selection of smaller cars. Today, Buick continues to push ahead toward the future, offering great cars and SUVs.
